As part of a working trip to the hero city, Russian trade representatives in 7 foreign countries took part in a plenary meeting, where, together with representatives of relevant structures, executive authorities and the business community, they discussed the reorientation of markets in the face of new realities and prospects for further cooperation. For the participants of the business session, country sections were also organized, where entrepreneurs could communicate individually with trade representatives and get answers to their questions. In addition, the program of the working visit includes a visit to Volgograd enterprises.
Strong growth in exports and imports
The Volgograd region hosts trade representatives of the Russian Federation in foreign countries as part of a business session for the second time. The event was organized as part of the implementation of the national projects "International Cooperation and Export", "Small and Medium Enterprises".
This year the region was visited by delegations representing Russia's interests in Armenia, Tajikistan, Ethiopia, Nicaragua, Bulgaria, Canada and Japan. The working visit began with a plenary discussion “New realities. Market Reorientation: Export, Import and Logistics”, in which the trade representatives of the Russian Federation spoke about the possibilities of foreign countries and the prospects for cooperation with them.
During the opening of the plenary session, the guests were greeted by Deputy Governor Anna Pisemskaya. She noted that the Volgograd region is a large industrial center of the Southern Federal District, ranking third among the southern regions in terms of foreign trade.
– In 2022, the foreign trade turnover of the Volgograd Region grew steadily by 12.8% compared to 2021, including regional exports increased by 16.1%, – said Anna Pisemskaya. – At the same time, the region maintained foreign economic relations with 115 countries of the world. In the first quarter of this year, the number of foreign trade partners was replenished by the countries of Asia and the Middle East - Pakistan, Egypt, Lebanon. Active work to diversify exports and imports is bearing fruit. Thus, for example, the reorientation of foreign trade flows to the friendly countries of Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Africa is being carried out at an active pace.
Mineral products, metals and metal products, chemical industry products, foodstuffs and agricultural raw materials, as well as machinery, equipment and vehicles are delivered from the Volgograd Region to foreign countries on a priority basis. The export potential of the region is constantly growing, all the necessary conditions are being created here for the effective operation of export-oriented companies, the entry of their products and services into international markets. Among the enterprises, work is underway to popularize export activities, as well as to increase the recognition of the regional product abroad.
Reliable partners
A significant role in the organization of this work belongs to such a structure as the Export Support Center of the Volgograd Region.
“Our region is meeting Russian trade representatives in foreign countries for the second time,” recalled Victoria Afanasova, director of the Export Support Center of the Volgograd Region. - Such attention from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation confirms the existence of a significant export potential of the subject. Today, each participant of the strategic session from the business side had the opportunity to communicate directly with representatives of trade missions of the Russian Federation, ask them specific questions, understand what products may be in demand on the territory of foreign countries, build joint work on the supply of Volgograd products abroad, to those countries that are presented here. This is such a first starting point from which concrete targeted work begins to search for reliable partners.
During the discussion, trade representatives spoke about the possibilities of the modern international market, its diversification in the face of sanctions pressure, as well as available resources. Many of the countries represented are already permanent partners of the region, cooperation with which has been actively developing in recent years.
For example, Volgograd enterprises conduct active foreign trade with the Republic of Armenia. In 2022, foreign trade turnover with this country more than doubled compared to the previous indicator, imports increased by 80%. 54 Volgograd companies were engaged in export, 16 enterprises - in import.
“The way we are received today by the Volgograd region is worthy of the highest praise,” said Anna Donchenko, trade representative of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Armenia. - We are used to this format, we are ready for it, but the number of exporters who were invited here today is truly amazing. This is an excellent platform to start a new format of communication - in a close dialogue with business. The Volgograd region is one of those regions that actively participate in trade and economic relations between our countries. There is an active business here that often comes to us. Moreover, today such a direction as industrial tourism is developing. We will be glad to see representatives of Volgograd enterprises at the enterprises of Armenia and vice versa.
Active cooperation
According to the trade representative, Russian products are in great demand in Armenia. Vegetable and butter, dairy products, ice cream are of great interest to Armenian partners. Also, in connection with the construction boom, Russian building materials are in great demand.
Another reliable partner of the region and the country is the Republic of Tajikistan. In 2022, the trade turnover between the Volgograd region and Tajikistan increased by 48% - exports grew by 52%, imports - by 31%.
Enterprises exported fuel and mineral products and products of their distillation, detergents, ferrous metal products, animal feed, plastics and much more to the friendly Republic. Cotton was mainly supplied from Tajikistan to the territory of the region. Active cooperation between the countries is also carried out in the social sphere - for example, in 2022-2023, 208 students from Tajikistan studied at educational organizations in Volgograd.
“Tajikistan is our most consistent partner, the trade turnover with which is constantly growing, we observe the maximum loyalty of the Tajik consumer to the Russian product,” said Evgeny Korenkov, Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Tajikistan. - The Volgograd region among all subjects of the Russian Federation occupies a fairly high position in cooperation with this country. In general, over the past 2 years, trade with Russia has grown significantly - as a rule, processed products and metal products were exported. We deliver back cotton, which is in great demand in the Russian Federation. Tajikistan is now also following the path of import substitution. We invite colleagues who are engaged in light industry to this country in order to create joint ventures for the production of products that will be in demand both in the region and in Russia.
Development with state support
Despite the geopolitical situation, the Volgograd region managed to increase its foreign trade activity with Japan by 15%. Cooperation with Bulgaria also continues - in 2022, 15 Volgograd companies exported their products to this country, 10 companies established imports. In the opinion of the session participants, great prospects are also opening up for cooperation with Ethiopia, Canada and Nicaragua.
As part of the country sections, which took place after the end of the plenary discussion, representatives of the business community learned about the peculiarities of doing business in the countries represented, about effective measures to support exports, were able to ask guests questions and find the necessary solutions to increase export potential. More than 70 Volgograd companies took part in the meetings.
During a two-day visit to the region, sales representatives will visit enterprises of the chemical and processing industries, sites for the production of high-voltage equipment, additive technologies.
Recall that active work continues in the region to support small and medium-sized businesses. At the initiative of Governor Andrey Bocharov, four packages of measures to support various sectors of the real sector of the economy worth more than 17 billion rubles have been developed and are being implemented. Within the framework of the national projects "International Cooperation and Export" and "Small and Medium Enterprises", exporters of the region have access to financial instruments, expert assistance in organizing business missions, preparing and participating companies in industry exhibitions, and transporting products to foreign markets.
